Barley news EU & UK: Barley crop expected to be the same as in 2021

Concern was building regarding dryness in parts of France, but this situation was addressed with good rains over the past month with much of the rain very timely during the past seven days, RMI Analytics said in their latest report earlier in April.

French spring barley planting is complete and both 2RS and 6RW crops look very good at present, with crop ratings as Good to Excellent at 92% for 2RS and 88-89% for 6RW (both better than crop 2021). With existing moisture conditions, the prospects for a reasonable good yield outcome are good.

Scotland and Scandinavia continue to plant spring barley but progress is normal at this time.

Germany & the UK planting is complete and the recent rains are supporting crop development for spring and winter barley.

Crop potential in the EU27+UK looks reasonably good at the moment, where production is expected to slightly exceed crop 2021 output.

According to RMI Analytics, the EU27+UK is set to produce 60 mln tonnes of barley, same as crop 2021.

Ukraine remains a big question, but with the barley crop mostly planted, RMI Analytics’ estimate is raised to 8 mln tonnes with uncertainty regarding the status of export infrastructure’s ability to execute shipments.
